Impact of land use/land cover changes on soil erosion risk in upper Mile River sub-watershed, North Eastern highlands of Ethiopia

Unsustainable management of land resources aggravates degradation. An accurate assessment soil erosion is needed to reduce the problem loss in highly fragile mountainous areas. Modeling impact LULCC on a vital process for watershed planning. This study aimed examine effect changing LULC upper Mile sub watershed, North Eastern highlands Ethiopia. It was done by quantifying and evaluating over years 1989–2018 area. The data acquired from field surveys secondary sources. RUSLE employed GIS environment create maps using factors’. model predicts 58.90%, 12.40%, 8.90%, 8.89% sub-watershed has predicted as low, moderate, high very risk, respectively. mean annual rate area had increased 16.07 tha−1 y−1 1989 17.26 2003 decrease 12.94 tha−1y−1 2018. attributed closure interventions last two decades. differences risk among three periods suggested that changes have significant risk.
